CAREER SUPPORT
Careers provision at Solihull now looks a bit different from when most of our alumni were at school. This year we launched the new FUTURES team at Solihull, designed to incorporate all aspects of post-16 and post-18 pathway support. The FUTURES team comprises Dr Sian Foster, Head of Oxbridge, & MedVets Co-ordinator; Mrs Amy Fallis, Co-ordinator of Apprenticeships, & International Universities; and Mrs Rhian Chillcott, Director of Futures.
Preparing our pupils for life ‘after Solihull’ underpins much of what we do. Every pupil’s future is important, and we do not take lightly the trust that parents place in us to ready their child for life ‘after Solihull’. We also know that each child is unique, and that their future is theirs to be decided, based on multiple factors.

Preparing pupils for their future ‘after Solihull’ begins as early as Third Form. Throughout their time with us, all Senior School pupils receive a spiral curriculum of FUTURES lessons, developed by Unifrog and endorsed by the Careers Development Institute. Pupils have their own Unifrog accounts, and are encouraged to use these at home, to extend their exploration of future pathways, building on the skills developed in lessons.
We also have a robust programme of co-curricular FUTURES activities, which was commented on most favourably in our recent ISI Inspection. Pupils of all ages from Thirds to Upper Sixth can attend weekly FUTURES Friday Seminars, at which they hear from speakers representing a wide range of industries and higher education institutions.
Informal in nature, with the ability to ask candid questions, these sessions provide pupils with insight into what a job ‘really’ entails, as well as giving them inside tips on optimising applications. Pupils wanting a deeper dive into a particular profession are invited to participate in termly FUTURES workshops, which take place on Saturdays.
Our FUTURES team works hard to produce a varied programme of FUTURES Friday Seminars, designed to appeal to a broad range of pupils. We are currently putting together our Christmas Term programme of FUTURES Friday Seminars, and so if you are interested in taking part, Mrs Chillcott would be grateful to hear from you: ChillcottR@SolSch.org.uk. There is no need to be an experienced public speaker, or particularly senior in your organisation, as what we are looking for is a taster of ‘real life’ within various sectors.
Access experienced professionals from hundreds of different careers through your community. Search for mentors from a range of industries and locations - if you don't find a match try changing your criteria or using one search filter at a time.
