ABOUT OLD SILHILLIANS CLUB

Originally formed as Solihull School Old Boys Hockey Club in 1930, the Old Silhillians Hockey Club (Old Sils) now runs six Men's teams (plus a midweek Masters team), five Ladies' teams, and has a large and flourishing Junior section. The club has open membership but counts many former pupils, current students and their parents from the Solihull School Community amongst its regular playing membership.

Old Sils was the first club in the country to be awarded England Hockey's Clubmark accreditation, won the prestigious “European Hockey Club of the Year” title in 2014, and was voted England Hockey’s “Club of the Year” in 2015. We offer a variety of opportunities to train and play in League and friendly matches against other clubs across the Midlands.

With its own astroturf pitch located adjacent to the Clubhouse, the club offers excellent changing & showering facilities, two bars, and a large and comfortable lounge overlooking the pitch. The Silhillians Sports Club is also home to other sports clubs including rugby, football, squash and shooting. The club has produced county and international standard players and has a well-established reputation for superb coaching staff and a culture that encourages and nurtures sporting excellence.

Old Sils is a family orientated club with male & female players of all ages; we pride ourselves on having a fun and inclusive social life, including events such as our popular ‘Silz Festival’ which takes place every August.

NEW PLAYERS OR RETURNING TO HOCKEY

Old Silhillians Hockey Club welcomes new members of all standards, whether you are wishing to play hockey for the first time, are returning to the sport, or transferring from another club, we will help you be the best you can be, get plenty of hockey playing experience and have fun doing it.

HOCKEY TRAINING AT OLD SILS

We offer various weeknight training options with separate sessions for male and females and with sessions also grouped by differing abilities, allowing beginners to learn the basics and more experienced players to develop their advanced skills and tactics. Ages range from 13 to 75+ and hockey sticks and shin pads are available to loan for those wanting to try the sport out. Training attendance is relaxed, players can come to as many sessions as they wish, and our coaches make our hockey training rewarding and fun – it is a great way to build your playing experience and get some exercise!

PLAYING FOR OLD SILS' HOCKEY TEAMS

Old Sils has 6 men’s and 5 women's hockey teams which play in Midlands leagues, allowing our members to play hockey competitively no matter what their level of ability, with the opportunity to progress up through the teams as their skills develop. Junior players reaching 13 years old and new members to the club will be invited by our captains to play at an appropriate team level after participating in training sessions where their ability can be assessed.

Our lower league teams are focused on experience and development, and our higher men’s and women’s teams boast a record of success in competitions and league promotions. New players will find that competitiveness, a love of hockey and great team-spirit run throughout the club.
