We are the 2026 Sunday Times Independent Senior School of the Year in the West Midlands

Great news – today's Greyhound comes to you early, because I am proud to reveal that Solihull School is the 2026 Sunday Times Independent Senior School of the Year in the West Midlands. This honour is a particular delight, because it was unexpected, and represents independent recognition of the hard work and achievements of our staff and pupils.

Last week, I spoke to the editor of the Sunday Times Parent Power supplement who told me that their decision came out of our strong examination results, the value-added progress made by each pupil, and the rounded education that we offer. The supplement, which comes out on Sunday, should contain national league tables as well as a short write-up of the school.

Allow me to share with you the recipe for success at Solihull – it is not a secret. The pupils work hard; they are guided towards academic success by exceptional teaching and incredible pastoral support, and these are combined with every encouragement to see exam results as important, but as only a part of a life well lived. We place huge emphasis on sports, music, drama, arts, academic enrichment and charitable work at Solihull too. If your child is not already making the most of what is available here at Solihull, please tell him or her to get involved – these “extras” are not extra at all, they are foundations for a full and balanced life.

Please allow me also to thank you, parents and carers, for your support for the school. The pupils here have a fantastic set of staff around them. The photograph above shows the Head of Senior School Mr Morgan along with Mrs Speirs (Deputy Head Pastoral) and Mrs Robinson (Deputy Head Academic). Today is a day for them and their teams to be congratulated and to feel proud, and it is also a day for our Prep School team to shine too. With more than 90% of our Prep School pupils joining the Senior School each year, the seeds of today’s success are sown from a very early age. Thank you to all who have played a part in this wonderful recognition.

With best wishes for the weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Charles Fillingham,
Executive Headmaster
