Saturday 10th December was the annual 'December Vase' competition, an event dating back to the 1960s when Old Sillihians wanted to play golf at a date to co inside with the alumni reunion.
The event is open to all Old Sils regardless of if they are members of the golfing society or not, and this year saw over 60 golfers grace the links of Olton Golf Club with a further 20 joining for lunch afterwards.
It was a particularly cold and frosty morning, but the sun was out and despite the frozen greens there were some fantastic scores. David McNidder won the overall event with a fantastic score of 41 stableford points, narrowly beating Peter Strickland on count back.
A 3 course lunch was enjoyed by all, and also made for a fitting send off for headmaster David Lloyd. On behalf of the society we would like to wish David all the best, he was a great supporter of the society and will always be welcome at future events.
It was particularly pleasing to see a number of new faces, hopefully they will join the society and enjoy plenty more golf with fellow old sils in the years to come.
