465 London Dinner Friday 15 May 2026

Lively conversation and political insight dominate conversation at the 2026 London Dinner

Following a welcome reception on the Terrace, in the shadow of Big Ben, almost 100 Old Silhillians and Saint Martin’s Old Girls gathered in the Churchill Room, at the House of Commons, recently - for the 2026 London Dinner.

Guests spanned almost 70 years of school history, with Old Sils representing more than 35 different year groups, ranging from 1955 to 2022, joining us for the event. Former pupils were also joined by current and former staff, and current parents too – making the event a fantastic reflection of the strength and breadth of the Solihull School community.

And, crossing the House for the evening, from the red carpet of the Lords to the green of the Commons, was guest speaker the Rt. Hon. The Lord Case CVO PhD - the former Cabinet Secretary, Head of the Civil Service and Principal Private Secretary to four former Prime Ministers - who offered insights into life at No10 and thoughts on the current political landscape during a riveting after dinner speech and Q&A.

Over dinner, there was much lively conversation, catching up, and storytelling – together with shouts of appreciation for the different houses as guests introduced themselves to Lord Case during the Q&A.

The Loyal Toast was performed by Julia Skan (Shenstone 1984-1986), while current Old Silhillians Association President Simon Westwood (Shenstone 1966-1975) led the Toast to the School. At the end of the evening, Damian Kelly (Windsor 1981-1988), Chair of the Board of Governors, proposed a vote of thanks to Lord Case, and reflected on the bonds of community that had brought the group together – whether their school days ended recently, or half a century ago.

The 2026 event sold out in a matter of days – which is a wonderful testament to this enduring affection that Old Sils and SMOGs have for School. It also offered a hint to the Alumni Relations team that a bigger venue might be needed for 2027! The hunt is now on for an equally unique venue for the London dinner next year. We look forward to seeing you there.

Leavers of 1976, 1986 and 1996: don’t forget to register for your reunion back at school on Saturday 20th June. Check your emails for your invitation or register here.
