News from Solihull Alumni |
Last Friday, almost 200 alumni, parents, staff, and members of the newly elected Senior Bench came together for the first Solihull School Community Dinner.
Created as an informal and welcoming gathering for the whole school community, to celebrate the election of the new crop of young leaders, there were fantastic pop-up performances throughout the evening by the school Jazz 793, vocal soloists Martina Green sang 'Cry me a River' and Isabella Skinner sang 'I’m not that girl' from Wicked. James Scurlock on the trombone and violinist Neo Tse both accompanied by Hanlie Martens. Grace led by school Chaplain Rev. Rachel Hill-Brown and a toast to Solihull School by Simon Westwood, President of the Old Silhillians Association. A table quiz tested guests’ knowledge of the school - both past and present - and there was much laughter and lively conversation to be heard around the room at Copt Heath Golf Club.
After dinner, the Loyal Toast and a warm welcome from Headmaster Charles Fillingham, the evening’s entertainment got underway, with the dance floor packed with different generations until after Midnight. A giant school photo frame and props proved popular with guests too, as alumni and pupils from different houses gathered to capture snaps of groups from Pole, Jago, Windsor, Shenstone, and Fetherston.
Having proved so popular, it is hoped to make this lively event an annual fixture and we look forward to welcoming other members of the school community to future dinners.
