Choral Evensong at St Paul's Cathedral and London Drinks Reception - 28 March 2025

Memorable Evening at St Paul’s Cathedral and Stationers’ Hall"

Last week, former students, parents and friends of the school gathered in London to enjoy Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral followed by drinks at the historic Stationers Hall in the City of London. It was a sociable and relaxed evening in great company, with alumni from every decade since the 1950s joining the event - including several former pupils who only left the school within the last few years.

In his welcome to the guests, Executive Headmaster Charles Fillingham revealed that Stationers’ Hall, built in the Seventeenth Century, is home to The Stationers' Company – a London Livery Company which first originated in 1403 and whose members are traditionally text writers and illuminators of manuscript books, booksellers, bookbinders and suppliers of parchment, pens, and paper. Today, the company includes publishers and newspaper sellers among its members and includes Mr Fillingham, who joined the Stationers’ Company when he was Deputy Head at City of London Boys and worked with pupils on their regular school magazine.

Mr Fillingham updated guests on the latest developments at school, not least of which was the school being recognised as the 2025 TES Independent Senior School of the Year. He thanked the many generous supporters of the school gathered in the room, both those who contribute towards school bursaries and those who have come on board to back the Synergy campaign to raise funds to transform the school library and gym to meet the changing needs of today’s and future pupils. He also warmly invited guests to join him at the next Solihull School community event, the annual dinner at Copt Heath Golf Club in Solihull, which takes place on Friday 23 May and is designed to bring the whole school community together – alumni, parents and former parents, staff and friends of the school alike.
