Last October, Charles Toher (Fetherston 2003 - 2014) contacted his old school friend and fellow J1 Trooper Harry Morgan (Windsor 2003 - 2014), to pitch the idea of forming a rock band. What started as a bit of fun turned into a headline concert in London last month, when over 200 people saw The Green Lanes perform live at iconic music venue 'The Dome'
In the audience were well over 60 Old Silhillians, many of whom travelled from far and wide to hear Charles, Harry, and their friends Gareth and Joe, sing original songs, and surprise covers of songs by The Coral, Kaiser Chiefs, finishing with a rousing rendition of Shawn Mendes' 'Stitches' as the encore. Two support acts - JWhale and Peter Mullen - helped to create a beautiful night of music.
The event also raised in excess of £2,500 for Transcend Sarcoma; a cancer research charity founded by Harry's friend, Jack Holmes.
Charles said: "We are so lucky to have the support of such a great group of friends, some of them even learnt the words to our songs! We put a lot of effort into bringing this together and I am really proud of what we achieved. Perseverantia!"
Frontman Harry, who managed to weave the words 'Old Silhillian' into their rendition of Kaiser Chiefs' 'I Predict A Riot', said: "This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live out the dream of being a rockstar. But the best part was looking into the crowd and seeing just how many people the event brought together, including school friends who hadn't seen each other in ten years. It was really special."
Harry and the band continue to support Transcend Sarcoma - and you can find out more about this cause here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/sarcomaresearch?utm_term=qGddZ5rpb
