9 Teens: Monday 16 October – Thursday 19 October 2023, Bushell Hall at 7.00 pm
We are delighted to be able to present the world premiere of the musical 9 Teens, commissioned by Solihull School and written by Mark Wheeller and Paul Ibbott.
9 Teens is about nine teenagers and their experiences from the 1950s up to the present day. We see many life events, including memories of recording the ‘Top 40’ from the radio onto tape decks in the 1990s, the discovery of favourite sweets, Valentine’s Day and Christmas traditions, summer holidays and experiences of school. 9 Teens is a verbatim musical, meaning the production is based on real life events and memories. Members of our school community and guests were interviewed, and the script then evolved from what they said. If you were a teenager from the 1950s to present day you will recognise many of the memories, and if you are an Old Silhillian or Saint Martin’s Old Girl you might even recognise some of the characters! There are some comedic moments and stories, however there are also some sensitive issues in the performance. The production is suitable viewing for ages 12+. It features performances from pupils in the Fourth Form to Upper Sixth Form.
